Meteor Showers Near Dubai
A meteor can cross the sky in a second. Give yourself an evening to catch a few. Here is how to plan a meteor shower trip from Dubai, from annual peak dates to what you can expect to see.
Which
meteor showers can you see in the UAE in 2026 and 2027
| Meteor shower | Typical peak | Viewing tip |
|---|---|---|
| Geminids | 13–14 December 2026 | Often active before midnight too |
| Quadrantids | 3–4 January 2027 | A short peak makes timing important |
| Eta Aquariids | 5–6 May 2027 | Best watched before dawn |
| Perseids | 12–13 August 2027 | Plan for a warm summer night |
These annual peak dates are approximate. Check the current year’s timing and Moon before booking: the best UAE viewing night can vary.
Where is the
best place to watch
Choose a dark location with a wide, open sky. For trips from Dubai, our favourite is Al Quaa in Abu Dhabi, away from the city lights. A quiet camp away from headlights gives you a much better view than a busy roadside.
Bright meteors can appear over cities too, but light pollution hides many of the fainter ones.

Do you need a
telescope
No. Meteors are best watched with the naked eye. Settle into a comfortable seat, look across a broad area of sky and give your eyes around 20 to 30 minutes away from bright screens to adjust.

How many meteors will you see
There is no fixed number. Strong showers can produce dozens per hour under good conditions, but your view depends on moonlight, weather and timing. Published peak rates describe particular conditions, rather than a promise for every visitor.

Should you stay
overnight
Staying longer gives you more time to spot meteors, especially when a shower is best before dawn. An evening trip can still be worthwhile if it overlaps a good viewing window. Choose the timing around the shower you want to see.

Are there
organised meteor shower trips from Dubai
Arabian Wanderers offers trips for selected meteor showers, with a desert camp, astronomy guidance, telescope viewing, a majlis seating area, toilets, 4x4 transfers and meals. Telescopes are for exploring other sky objects while you watch for meteors with your eyes.
Available dates, transport options and overnight arrangements depend on the event.
